A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly threatened a Salina man with a knife in the parking lot of Salina Regional Health Center.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that officers were sent to Salina Regional Health Center at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday for the report of an assault. A Salina man was exiting the hospital when he was approached by a man identified as Dromico Elam, 41, who allegedly was brandishing a large folding knife with the blade open.

The Salina man, who doesn't speak English, wasn't sure what Elam was saying to him, so he made his way to his vehicle, got in, and locked the doors, Forrester said. The man then called his sister, who called 9-1-1.

Elam then allegedly put the knife away and walked south on S. Santa Fe, where officers found him a short while later, Forrester said. Elam was found to be in possession of a knife.

Forrester said that Elam was on state parole at the time of the alleged incident. The state requested an arrest and detain warrant for Elam.

Elam, who is believed to be homeless, was arrested on the state warrant and on the requested charge of hostile demonstration with a weapon, Forrester said.
