A local winery is out more than $2,100 after a burglary over the weekend.

Officers were sent to Smoky Hill Winery, 2771 Centennial Road, on Saturday for the report of a burglary sometime between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning.

An employee entering the business on Saturday noticed a closet door open, one of the side rooms in disarray with items scattered on the floor, and the back door forced open, Forrester explained. Items taken include the following, according to Forrester.

An estimated 64 bottles of wine valued at between $16-$30 each

Total loss was estimated at $1,650, with damage to the door estimated at $150, he noted.

Then, on Sunday, officers were sent back to the business after it was discovered that a shed on the property also had been forced open, Forrester reported. An unknown brand of powerwasher, valued at $300, and a gate hinge kit, valued at $50, were taken, he noted. It is believed that the shed was broken into at the same time as the winery building, he added.

According to Forrester, video surveillance is being reviewed.
