Dwight LaVerne Meuli, age 95 of rural Abilene passed away at his home surrounded by his family on November 2, 2024. He was born May 4, 1929, in rural Elmo, Kansas, the son of Harvey and Myrtle (Hoffman) Meuli. He grew up in Dickinson County and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman, Kansas with the class of 1947. On May 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marvel Sandow at New Basel Evangelical and Reformed Church. Dwight farmed south of Abilene and owned Meuli Inc, a dirt contracting business, building ponds, terraces, and waterways.
Dwight served as Treasurer of the Turkey Creek Watershed Board for many years, served on the Navarre CO-OP Board, was a member of the New Basel Church and served in numerous capacities on the church counsel, served on the funeral committee, always sang in the choir, and for many years sang in a male quartet.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife Marvel of the home, his daughter Lisa Berggren and son-in-law Tim of rural Abilene, two granddaughters, Shelby Berggren and her fiancé Ryan Zoglmann of Conway Springs, Kansas and Harlie Berggren of Manhattan, Kansas, and two great grandchildren, Laitynn Kill and Cohen Zoglmann. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elwin Meuli and Gene Meuli, and his sister Carrol Funston.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, November 7, 2024, at New Basel Church, 1075 1100 Avenue, Abilene, Kansas and burial will follow at the New Basel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, November 6, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas.
