A Salina man was arrested on requested charges of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and criminal threat after an incident Thursday afternoon.
Officers were sent to the 600 block of East Ash Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday for the report of a verbal domestic dispute in progress, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning.
Officers made contact with Wesley Spragg, 39, of Salina, who requested to be taken to jail, Forrester noted. Spragg then began running away from the officers and refused to stop when ordered to do so, according to Forrester. Spragg eventually stopped, turned around, and yelled at the officers, he added.
According to Forrester, Spragg then allegedly picked up an approximate eight-inch fixed-blade knife from the ground, pointed it at one of the officers, and quickly moved toward the officer. The officer backed up to create distance and Spragg put the knife into a sheath he had hanging from around his neck, Forrester noted.
At that point, he was arrested on the following requested charges, according to Forrester.
●Aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer
●Criminal threat
