A Saline County woman found dead Monday in a residence south of Salina died of an apparent gunshot wound.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that Laurie Likins, 50, died of what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Additionally, two dogs found dead at the residence also suffered apparent gunshot wounds, he said.

Deputies were sent to 554 W. Parsons Road after a friend of Likins' requested a welfare check. Soldan said the friend had seen a social media post that concerned her, so she called for a welfare check.

When deputies arrived at the residence, they found a broken window and saw blood inside the residence. When they called out for anyone in the residence, they made contact with Brent Allen Spainhour, 55, who also lived there.

Soldan said Spainhour appeared agitated and told deputies that Likins was dead inside the residence.

Spainhour was taken into custody at the residence. He was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges, Soldan said.

●Murder in the first degree

●Cruelty to animals
