MARYVILLE, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Indoor Track opened its 2024-25 season at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic at Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday.
The Coyotes came away with some solid performances on the women’s side to start the season which included a couple event wins.
Hailey Nordus was phenomenal in her Coyote debut, winning the 800m with a time of 2:24.98.
Madisyn Ehrlich won the 1000m with a time of 3:00.24. Kirstin Hackney was third in 3:03.63, and Joni Schroeder was fifth in 3:08.22.
Kierra Jensen placed third in the 5000m with a time of 18:23.93, Alayna Behrman was fifth in 19:09.34, Josie Koppes was ninth in 19:19.95 and Charlee Lind was 15th in 20:22.35.
The 4x400m relay team of Lauryn Mikkelson, Hailey Nordhus, Kirstin Hackney and Makyla Shaw was eighth with a time of 4:19.71.
Lauryn Mikkelson was ninth in the 400m with a time of 63.06, Ava Kenyon was 11th in 64.25, and Mayce Russell was 14th in 66.74.
Julie Rottinghaus placed 11th in the long jump with a mark of 5.14m and Markyla Shaw was 23rd with a mark of 4.73m.
Emma McAlister was 12th in the mile run with a time of 5:59.47, and Allyson Taylor was 14th in 6:07.50.
Julie Rottinghaus was 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.58m.
Aunisty McNeal was 15th in the shot put with a mark of 10.73m, and Elizabeth Stout was 22nd with a mark of 10.42m.
Micah Dickens was 16th in the 3000m with a time of 11:49.68 and Makayla Little was 17th in 12:21.08.
Elizabeth Stout was 25th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.68m, Aunisty McNeal was 31st with a mark of 11.43m, and Roselyn Torres was 43rd with a mark of 8.32m.
Julie Rottinghaus finished 30th in the 200m with a time of 27.391 seconds, Markyla Shaw was 31st with a time of 27.400, Lauryn Mikkelson was 37th in 27.76, Ava Kenyon was 46th in 28.50, and Mayce Russell was 48th in 28.79.
Things looked good for KWU on the men’s side as well
Julian Avila won the 1000m with a time of 2:28.63. Ty Davidson was fifth with a time of 2:32.76, Wyatt Johnson was seventh in 2:33.35, Nicolas Martinez was 12th in 2:37.01, Nate Chavez was 15th in 2:40.44, Will Childers was 21st in 2:57.93.
Giovanni Rios finished third in the mile with a time of 4:27.11, Evan Pearce was fourth in 4:32.68 and Ian Doss was eighth in 4:38.52.
Damion Jackson was third in the 5000m with a time of 15:02.76, Austin Hess was sixth in 15:11.14, Jake Cruz was 17th in 15:44.86, Cisco Alvarez was 25th in 16:34.10, and Jack Horacek was 30th in 17:19.83.
Keegan Lott was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.79m, Austin Baird was 35th with a mark of 10.05m and Riley Garcia was 40th with a mark of 9.67m.
Cayden Purcell reached the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds in the preliminaries, then placed sixth in the finals with a time of 9.12.
The 4x400m relay team of Andrew Smith, Ty Davidson, Kean Dinkel and Triston Cottone was 10th with a time of 3:31.37. KWU also had a second team in the event consisting of Cayden Purcell, Nate Chavez, Will Childers and Evan Pearce that finished 15th in 3:37.66.
Zamari Burrell finished 10th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.03 seconds. Kean Dinkel was 14th with a time of 7.10, Tyler Fontenot was 30th with a time of 7.242 seconds, and Riley Garcia was 41st with a time of 7.34.
Zamari Burrell finished 10th in the 200m with a time of 22.17 seconds. Cayden Purcell was 21st in 22.69, Kean Dinkel was 26th in 22.91 and Tyler Fontenot was 36th in 23.33.
Andrew Smith was 15th in the 400m with a time of 53.19 seconds and Trevor Peal was 16th with a time of 53.30.
Triston Cottone finished 13th in the 800m with a time of 1:58.78.
Keegan Lott was 13th in the weight throw with a mark of 14.48m and Austin Baird was 34th with a mark of 11.69m.
Tytus Reed was 16th in the 3000m with a time of 9:05.89, Tim Parish was 22nd in 9:22.58, Brodie Bradshaw was 23rd in 9:32.55, and Landon Steeger was 26th in 9:38.60.
Riley Garcia was 25th in the long jump with a mark of 5.17m.
