UPDATE: NWS drops watches, issues winter storm warning, advisories

UPDATE 1:12 p.m. Tuesday: The National Weather Service has adjusted some of the information in the winter storm warning for Marion and McPherson counties, and the winter weather advisory for Ellsworth, Lincoln, and Saline counties. The information has been updated below.

Two counties in our area have been moved to a winter storm warning, while six others have winter weather advisories.

Winter storm warning

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a winter storm warning in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Marion County

McPherson County

Areas of sleet, freezing drizzle, freezing rain, and snow developing this evening, transitioning to all snow from north to south overnight into early Wednesday. Total snow accumulations through Wednesday night of 4 to 7 inches. Ice accumulations up to around one-tenth of an inch across southeast Kansas.

Plan on hazardous road conditions. Gusty north winds will support blowing and drifting snow, which could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute.

Bitter cold sub-zero wind chills will overspread the area Wednesday night.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Winter weather advisories

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday that includes the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Saline County

Snow is expected, mainly tonight and Wednesday, but possibly lingering through Wednesday night. Total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are forecast.

Plan on hazardous road conditions. Gusty north winds will support blowing and drifting snow, which could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute.

Bitter cold sub-zero wind chills will overspread the area Wednesday night.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to noon Thursday that includes Dickinson County.

Snow is expected, with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind chills may fall to near 10 degrees below zero Thursday morning.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Additionally, the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday to noon Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Ottawa County

Snow is expected, with total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Wind chills may fall to near 10 degrees below zero Thursday morning.
