SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect for an attack with a flare gun.
Just after 6p.m. Thursday, police responded to the bus stop at Sunset Plaza, 1201 W. Crawford, in reference to a subject possibly shooting a flare gun into traffic, according to Salina Police Captain James Feldman.
Upon arrival, officers contacted a 30-year-old man walking away from the area. Tha man reported being shot at with a flare gun by a known subject.
Officers also contacted 78-year-old W.L. McCullom. Officers located a flare gun, which had been shot off, that had been hidden prior to their arrival. The investigation determined that McCullom had observed the man at the bus stop and confronted him about possibly stealing cigarettes, McCullom then produced the flare gun and fired it at the man.
The flare missed the man and went across Crawford. There was no damage from the flare. McCullom was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Assault and Criminal Discharge of a Firearm.
