With wins of 7-1 and 8-1 over Ellsworth on Tuesday, the Southeast of Saline softball team is back in form having won four in a row by a combined 33 runs.

The Lady Trojans have locked up at least second place in the NCAA at 8-2, and with some help from Republic County, could still earn a share of a second straight league title before the end of the regular season.

SES missed another shutout by a single run in the final inning of game one thanks to another masterful day in the circle by Carly Commerford.

The junior tossed six full innings of scoreless ball striking out six without issuing a single walk.

At the top of the Trojan order, both Commerford and Maddie Harris set the table well with 2-3 days at the plate, but it was Chase Gilpin who dealt the most damage with three runs driven in during the 7-1 victory.

Game two saw almost identical numbers from both teams but this time the lone run for the Lady Bearcats came in the bottom of the first before SES pulled away for good.

In the nightcap it was Lexi Jacobson who dominated the Ellsworth order, striking out six, walking none, and allowing just the lone run on five hits.

The SES order spread the wealth once more with six different Lady Trojans posting a hit, and this time it was Bryna Baird with 3 RBI to help lift the team to an 8-1 victory and secure the sweep.

Field conditions have postponed Southeast’s regular-season finale which will now be played against Russell in Hays on Friday before postseason play begins on May 16.
