KWU men's tennis wins 6th straight, beats Bethel

NORTH NEWTON – Kansas Wesleyan men's tennis made it six straight wins on Thursday at Ward Tennis Center as the Coyotes beat the Bethel Threshers 5-2 in a key Kansas Conference match.

Bethel got the first point of the match winning the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Michael Cech and Milan Bucek beat Daniel Harkin (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) and Alex Sherer (FR/Rossville, Kan.) 6-2 at the No. 1 position and Tomas Quercia and Joaquin Pluis beat Braeden Lewis (FR/Edmond, Okla.) and Luke Craft (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) 6-0 at the No. 3 position.

Wesleyan got a win at No. 2 doubles as Bryce Ware (FR/Amarillo, Texas) and Garrison Wright (FR/Maize, Kan.) beat Nolan Schrader and Jordan Singh 6-3.

The Coyotes bounced back nicely in the singles play, winning five of six match-ups.

Harkin beat Cech at the No. 1 position 6-3, 6-4; Ware beat Bucek 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2; Sherer beat Schrader 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3; Wright beat Quercia 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Rodrigo Vera (SR/Lima, Peru) beat Singh 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6. Bethel got its lone win in singles at No. 5 as Pluis beat Wes Robertson (SO/Edmond, Okla.) 7-5, 6-0.

The victory boosts Wesleyan's record to 7-5 overall and 6-0 in the KCAC.

Wesleyan faces a stiff test on Saturday, taking on No. 25 ranked McPherson at 11 a.m. at the Bulldog Tennis Center in McPherson.
