NEW ORLEANS, La. - A move up the charts by the Cloud County Community College men's cross country team highlights the final United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Division I Cross Country Polls prior to next weekend's NJCAA National Championship Meet as both the T-Bird men and women rank inside the top-three.
Fresh off their second-consecutive NJCAA Region VI and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division title, the CCCC men were one of the biggest movers of the week in the week five Coaches Poll as Cloud County moved up two spots to number three behind only Iowa Central Community College and Iowa Western Community College. Cloud County represents one of five schools from the KJCCC inside the top-10 as the T-Birds are the highest Jayhawk Conference school in the poll after catapulting their way over both Hutchinson CC and Southern Idaho CC for their highest ranking of the year. Serving as defending National Champions, Cloud County will go head-to-head with NJCAA schools from outside of Region VI for the first time at the National Championship meet, which is scheduled for Nov. 14 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
The Cloud County women are also finding themselves among the top-tier of schools in the latest rankings as CCCC holds at number two as part of an unchanged top-five from two weeks ago. Trailing only Iowa Central CC, Cloud County defeated number three Colby CC at the NJCAA Region VI Championships by 57 points en route to their first NJCAA Region VI Division I and KJCCC West Division crowns in program history. The T-Birds will look to continue their record-setting season and finish off the year with some more history as CCCC will aim for a high finish at the NJCAA Championships while also looking to knock off three-time defending national champion and meet host Iowa Central CC on their home course. The top-three ranking marks the fifth-consecutive poll that Cloud County has been ranked inside the top-three this season.
