September 21, 1928 - June 9, 2021

Delmer F. Harris, Jr., age 92, longtime Concordia resident, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Advent Health Shawnee Mission, Merriam, Kansas. 

Delmer was born in Concordia, Kansas, September 21, 1928 to Rozella and Delmer F. Harris, Sr.

He graduated from Concordia High School in 1945 and from the University of Kansas in 1949 with an additional year in the KU School of Law. In August 1950, he began 70 years of marriage to his loving wife Ruth. They made their home in Concordia, Kansas where they owned and operated The Delmer F. Harris Playground Equipment Company for 44 years.  

Delmer was active in the Jaycees and held several offices, both local and state.  He was a deacon, a trustee, and an elder in the Presbyterian Church and served as the clerk of the local church session for 27 years. He sang in the church choir for many years.  He and Ruth were active in the Mariner organization of the Presbyterian Church and served as officers in the local group and in the statewide group.  

Delmer enjoyed travel, especially river cruises in Europe with Ruth and camping trips in Colorado with the family.  

In 2011 Delmer and Ruth moved to Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS. They became active with the Lakeview Chapel service with Delmer singing in the choir and Ruth helping with greeting. 

He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Del (Deborah) of Gaithersburg, MD, Susan of Estes Park, CO, John (Barbara) of Wheaton, IL, Dan (Irina) of Concordia, and Nancy Spatz (Jeff) of Lee’s Summit, MO, grandchildren Margaret Harris, Katherine Parran, Kirsten Harris, Lisa Harris, Mark Spatz, and Laura Spatz and great-granddaughter Kestrel Parran. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. on June 15, 2021 beginning at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with the committal at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas with Joe Detrixhe officiating.
