NORTH NEWTON – Kansas Wesleyan competitive dance was the best Kansas Conference school in all three competitions over the weekend at the Bethel College Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
KWU was the top finishing KCAC school in each competition, highlighted by KWU's second place finish in Friday evening's competition.
KWU's score of 78.30 on Friday night was the best competition score for the Coyotes in program history.
In the first competition, KWU was second to Saint Ambrose, who was first with a score of 85.20. KWU was next, followed by Saint Francis (Ill.) with a 78.07, York with a 73.27, Bethel with a 61.43, Bethany with a 42.1 and Friends with a 40.33.
Oklahoma City was the winner of the second competition with a score of 91.03, followed by Baker with an 88.77, Saint Ambrose with 85.03, Midland with 84.9, Saint Francis with 78.33, Madonna with 76.97, KWU was seventh with a 76.03, Bethel was eighth with 63.43, Columbia was ninth with 63.3, Ottawa was 10th with 55.77, Southwestern was 11th with 45.23 and Bethany was 12th with 40.63.
KWU finished fifth in the third competition with a score of 77.97. Saint Ambrose won with a 90.43, Oklahoma City was second with 89.87, Baker was third with 89.13, Midland was fourth with 82.67, Madonna was sixth with 77.50, Saint Francis was seventh with 76.03, Bethel was eighth with 59.80, and Southwestern was ninth with 45.17.
One more weekend of competition awaits the Coyotes ahead of the KCAC Championships. KWU heads to York on Friday for the York Invitational. The KCAC Championships are Feb. 17 at Friends.
