Spring Spruce Up seeks volunteers for April 17 event

Volunteers are needed for the Spring Spruce Up later this month.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on April 17. Wearing of protective face masks and social distancing will be mandatory. Volunteers are asked to bring their own water, snacks, and gloves. Tools will be provided.

Children ages 12 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the site at which they plan to work. The worksites include the following.

Ashby House
Volunteers will clean up flowerbeds and remove playground equipment from the property. Meet at 204 S. Eighth Street.

Community Housing Development Organization
Volunteers will clean up yards at two residences, as well as clean out a basement. Meet at the corner of N. Ninth Street and W. Hamilton Avenue.

North Town
Volunteers will clean and trim the landscaping at 5 Corners. Meet at N. Ninth Street and N. Broadway Boulevard.

Emergency Aid Food Bank garden
Volunteers will paint a garden tool shed, clean and organize tools, put garden kits together, and pick up trash. Meet at 255 S. Chicago Street.

Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad
Volunteers will clean and trim the landscaping, plus do general cleanup of the area. Meet at 1020 W. North Street.

Old Smoky Hill River channel
Volunteers will pick up trash along the Smoky Hill River channel next to the Salina Family YMCA and other locations along the river. Meet at the Salina Family YMCA parking lot.

Salina Downtown
Volunteers will clean and paint trash receptacles and clean parking lots and downtown along Santa Fe Avenue. Meet at Strand Plaza behind Barolo Grille.

The Temple
Volunteers will landscape the front garden and paint inside. Meet on the front steps of the Temple, 336 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

Additionally, as a part of the Spring Spruce Up, the City of Salina is offering a free landfill day.
