CONCORDIA -- The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has released it's annual basketball preseason polls for the KJCCC East and West Divisions in Division I play for the upcoming season.
For the T-Bird women, CCCC has been picked fourth in the preseason east division poll while the men have been picked to finish in seventh on the men's side of things in the KJCCC East.
Since going back to the two-division format for the 2018-19 season, preseason favorite and two-time defending East division champion Butler Community College once again finds themselves atop the women's poll in the east while Cowley is predicted to finish second after a fourth-place finish in the east a year ago. Coffeyville was picked third, just ahead of CCCC as the T-Birds beat out Independence, Neosho, and Allen to round out the seven-team division.
For the men's East division poll, Coffeyville once again finds themselves picked to win the division despite finishing the regular-season in third-place last year. Despite the finish, Coffeyville would go on to win the Region VI Championship while knocking off three of the top four seeded teams in the region tournament. Last season's KJCCC East Division Champion Cowley was picked second, followed by Butler, Independence, Neosho, Allen, and Cloud County.
This year's regular-season will feature a 22-game slate for both the CCCC women and men as the T-Birds will each get two non-conference games followed by a 20-game conference slate. Only the East Division will play non-conference games this season as the eight-team West Division makes for a 22-game schedule for those schools with each school playing cross-division opponents once and in-division foes twice.
The season is scheduled to officially get underway for the Cloud County men on Jan. 20 with a 7 p.m. home game against the Tabor College JV team while the T-Bird women will open things up on Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. against the Bethany College JV team. Per KJCCC guidelines, no fans will be allowed into any KJCCC athletic event through Feb. 4. All Cloud County home basketball games will be streamed live on the T-Bird Sports Network which can be found at www.cloudtbirds.com/video/tbirdsportsnetwork.
