NWS issues fire weather watches for Tuesday

Fire weather watches have been issued for several counties in our area.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

NWS in Wichita has issued a fire weather watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Extreme grassland fire danger is possible. Winds out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are forecast. Relative humidity is expected to be as low as 17 percent, NWS-Wichita noted.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Additionally, NWS in Hastings, Neb., has issued a fire weather watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening that includes Mitchell County.

Winds out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph are forecast. Relative humidity is expected to be as low as 15 percent, NWS-Hastings noted.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could start a fire.
