Jarrett Bowman has been selected as the new head coach of the Kansas Wesleyan Women's and Men's Tennis Programs.
"I'd like to thank the administration at Kansas Wesleyan, President (Matt) Thompson, athletic administration, everyone, for giving me this opportunity to lead Kansas Wesleyan Tennis," Bowman said.
Prior to Kansas Wesleyan, he served as a tennis professional at Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita. Prior to his time at Genesis, he was the head tennis professional at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, where he was in charge of club programming and events and Bowman served as an assistant and tennis pro at Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence.
"In club tennis you do a little bit of everything at all levels, but being at the school level you get to be a part of that consistent high performance level and being able to instill those characteristics you want in not only an athlete but in a person - discipline, teamwork, etc., so that when they leave here they are more than equipped to go out into the real world," Bowman said.
During his time as a student at the University of Kansas, Bowman played on Kansas' club tennis team and was instrumental in reestablishing the program after it had shut down due to COVID.
Before his time at Jayhawk Tennis Center, he was an operations specialist for Sporting Kansas City. He has additional operations experience serving as a student assistant at Barton County Community College in the sports information department.
Bowman said a big key in the position is the Salina tennis community.
"I am really excited to get involved in the Salina tennis community," he said. "When I interviewed the last part of that day was meeting with Clark Renfro and Chris Baker who are heavily involved with Salina Tennis Alliance and Salina Country Club and we had some really great conversations. I think that getting in collaboration with them, that's going to be something really exciting to be able to get our players out there and integrate KWU into the broader tennis community."
Bowman has an associate degree from Barton County Community College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas in Sports Management.
