Arthur “Art” W. Howell, Jr. 86, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, in Lincoln, KS. He was born June 20, 1935, to Arthur and Lola Ann (Spear) Howell, in Anderson, MO.
Art was a licensed engineer and surveyor. He served as county engineer in several counties in Kansas having been the Lincoln County Engineer at the age of 25.
Art and his wife, Eula Mae established their own engineering firm in Lincoln County. He also held a private pilot’s license.
Art was a past member of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture and the Kansas State Fair Board. Serving as past president, Art had been active in the Kansas Simmental Association through the years. His involvement in the American Boer Goat Association was felt throughout the United States of America.
Art was a stalwart volunteer for the Convention of States movement. He had a formal role as regional captain and the informal role as the state charmer. He could not leave a room until he shared his love for individual rights and limited government with everyone there. He disarmed his opponents with his smile and charm.
Art’s involvement in the Convention of States project promoted his belief in Article Five of United States Constitution.
Art is survived by his son Daniel Howell; grandson Dusty Howell; granddaughter Nikki Howell; granddaughter Katie (Jason) McWilliams; grandson Joshua Howell; grandson Whit Divilbiss; grandson Court Allmond; granddaughter KaiCee Campbell; brothers Frank (Nina) Howell, Lyle (Lyn) Howell and Butch (Marge) Howell; brother-in-law Jim LePisto; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eula Mae; sons A. Wade and Jeff Howell; grandson-in-law Donnie Moore; brothers Doyle (Julie) Howell and Bob (Janet) Jones; and sisters Vaudline (Rex) Field and Cheryl LePisto.
Art Howell was a true patriot and Statesman.
Memorial service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.
