⚾️ Coyotes blast Hesston to complete series sweep

Kansas Wesleyan Baseball met up with the Hesston College Larks on Saturday to complete a four-game series between the teams and the Coyotes would come away with another sweep, winning 21-2 and 8-1 at Dean Evans Stadium.

Just like on Thursday, Hesston led off the first game with a homer to take a 1-0 lead, but it would be short lived.

The Coyotes started the bottom of the first with four straight hits, the last a 2-run double by Fernando Ruvalcaba to put the Coyotes on the board. Chris Finocchario brought in another run with a sacrifice fly, as did Blake Dale. Chase Aurand then doubled to bring in the fifth run of the inning for the Coyotes.

Ruvalcaba got the scoring started in the second inning for the Coyotes with a solo homer. Joe Finder doubled to bring in Finocchario who walked in the inning. The Coyotes loaded the bases and Zac Goldenberg was hit by a pitch to bring in a run followed by a 2-run single by Niko Olson to make it 10-1 Coyotes.

Hesston added another run in the fourth, but the Coyotes blew the game wide open in the bottom of the frame with eight runs. Goldenberg led off the inning with a walk, Olson doubled and Allen knocked in the first run on a sacrifice fly. Tyler Nordyke then singled home a run. The Coyotes loaded the bases ahead of Blake Dale getting a RBI single. Aurand followed with a 2-run single and then Goldenberg clubbed a 3-run homer In his second at bat of the inning to give the Coyotes an 18-2 lead.

KWU added three more in the fifth as Ruvalcaba and Finocchario both doubled, and later Aurand had a 2-run double.

Aurand had four hits and drove in five runs. Ruvalcaba and Finocchario had three hits each. Thalen Wright went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out eight without issuing a walk to pick up the win. Luke Dillon and Thomas Pyland each tossed an inning.

In the second game it was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Dale singled and Goldenberg followed with a 2-run homer to put the Coyotes on top.

Finocchario homered in the third to extend the Coyote lead.

Finder drove in a run with a ground out in the fifth to make it 4-0.

Wesleyan added four more in the sixth. The Coyotes used a hit by Nordyke and then walks to Olsen, Ruvalcaba and Finocchario to bring in another run. Finder then doubled home two runs and Dale singled to bring in one more.

Hesston got its only run in the seventh on a homer.

Dale was the lone Coyote to have multiple hits with three. Wil Yamka got the win, going five innings allowing just two hits and striking out nine. Riley Gwin went two innings allowing one hit and striking out two.
