
Berneda Mae Swanson, age 90, Concordia, KS, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at her residence in Concordia, Kansas. She was born on August 2, 1935, in Republic County, Kansas to Vernon H. and Flossie M. (Landreth) Roberts.
Berneda was a 1954 graduate of Concordia High School.
She married Richard Swanson on September 5, 1954, at Scandia, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2004. To this union four children were born, Darrell, Catherine Ann, Robert, and Darla.
Berneda worked at a local drugstore, before finding her dream job at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. The company then merged with AT&T. After 35 years of working her and Richard moved back to Concordia and opened up the Floor Store and More.
Berneda loved to remodel homes and flip them and owned several rentals in the Concordia community.
She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include crafting, baking, and cooking big meals for family.
She was a member of the Concordia Wesleyan Church. She also volunteered through the church helping with cooking meals, daycare and various church activities.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Swanson, Concordia, daughter, Darla Jacobs (Roger), Jamestown, eight grandchildren, Colsen, Cambrie & Caigen Swanson, Dustin Swanson, Chantell McKenzie, Cyranda Ready (Bo), Skyler Jacobs (Starleen), MaKayla Jacobs, nine, great-grandchild, Shevelle Smith, Rochelle, Keisha, Ashlynn and RosaLee Ready, Kaysen Jacobs, Taylor Pierce, Joel Fuller, Jaxson Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded by her parents, Vernon and Flossie, husband, Richard Swanson, son, Robert Swanson, infant daughter, Catherine Ann, a granddaughter, Sara Swanson Smith, brother, Donald Roberts.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-7 pm all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Friday, November 14, 2025, at The Wesleyan Church, Concordia with Rev. David Redmond & Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, rural Concordia, Kansas.
