Jackie Dean Freeborn was born March 29, 1949, in Florence, Kansas, the youngest child of Ellis and Fronie (Scobee) Freeborn. He attended Florence schools, graduating with the class of 1967. He served his country with the United States Army.
He was first married to Mary Spencer. To this union his son Chad Freeborn was born. On July 11, 1982, he was united in marriage to Connie Lee Koop. This union would bring her son Chris Koop into their marriage. Their son Chase Freeborn would complete their blended family.
They made their home on a farm southwest of Florence. Along with farming, Jack supported his family by working at Countryside Feeds, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), and then for Doyle Creek Ranch.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing, Sunday country cruises and time spent with his family and friends. He loved his farm and his horses.
His family was very important to Jack. He loved to tease and 'torment' the ones he loved. It is said that he would provide a good back adjustment with his loving bear hugs. He lived to tease. His sister referred to him as Stinker. He would even receive mail to Stinker Freeborn! He greeted everyone with a smile and loved a good laugh.
On April 7, 2022, Jack passed away suddenly in Wichita, Kansas, after suffering a massive stroke.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Connie of Florence; his sons Chad Freeborn of Phoenix City, Alabama; Chris Koop of McPherson; and Chase Freeborn and his wife Becca of McPherson; daughter-in-law Suzanne Koop of McPherson; his sisters Mary Lee Wineinger of Chanute and Ruth Hodges of Ponca City, Oklahoma; his four grandchildren, Izyck, Aiden, Abby and Ryker; and a host of extended family and friends.
Jack's wishes in death were to be cremated and his cremains to be scattered on his land, with his horses and near his loved ones. His family and friends will remember him fondly with a smile and a story of all the fun memories.
