Memorial Day is day about remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the benefit of others and despite the rain, a great crowd gathered to commemorate at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1432 in Salina.

Due to rain, the services were held at the VFW Post 1432 building and still a great crowd attended to pay their respects. U.S. Veteran and guest speaker, Jerry Hinrikus gave remarks for this day of remembrance.

"Those that gave their lives, did not get a tomorrow," said Hinrikus. "They did not get to see their loved ones, did not get march down the wedding aisle, did not get to see their babies born, did not get see their grandkids play sports. We have the tomorrow's, but they did not."
Hinrikus was filled with compassion when he commented on the families who lost a loved one that was a U.S. Veteran.
"That is probably the most terrible thing that they ever have to go through. Can you imagine someone coming to the door and all of sudden you get that sick feeling, that your son or daughter passed away?" said Hinrikus.
He hopes everyone can remember the "ultimate sacrifice" that every U.S. veteran made.
