A Salina man was arrested late Saturday night after the pickup he was driving struck a tree and caught on fire.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning that officers and Salina Fire Department personnel were sent to the 2000 block of Harold Avenue at 10:56 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found the driver, Jeremiah Comini, 25, of Salina, laying on the east side of the roadway and the pickup on fire.

Comini had been southbound and failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway, Forrester noted. The 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup left the roadway and struck a tree, causing front end damage to the vehicle. The pickup then caught fire.

Comini had been able to exit the pickup just after the crash. He had several lacerations to his face and a severe laceration to his left hand, and was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center, according to Forrester.

The fire was extinguished and the pickup was towed from the scene.

Comini was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester reported.

●Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

●No proof of insurance

●Improper driving on laned roadways
