A local group recently collected food and funds while having fun doing something that they love.
Eighty-one participants showed up for the Central Kansas Disc Golf Club's 11th Annual Disc Golf Food Drive. The event was Feb. 20 in Oakdale Park.
According to the organization, $2,100 and a truckload of food was raised for the Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank.
This year's event had both the largest player turnout and the most donations secured, the group reported.
The local Disc Gold Food Drive was in conjunction with the Kansas Disc Golf Association’s Food Drive. Twenty-two other Disc Golf Food Drive fund raisers were scheduled statewide. As of Feb. 24, 19 of the 22 food drive events had been completed, with the total donations statewide of $17,631.35 and 2,805 food items.
In existence since 1990, the Central Kansas Disc Golf Club has worked with Salina Parks and Recreation to install 18 basket courses at Lakewood Park and Thomas Park. The club has also assisted in the installation of an 18-basket course at Webster Conference Center, a nine-basket course at KSU Polytechnic, and a 12-basket course at Southeast of Saline.
