Obituary for Marjorie Darlene (Phelps) Powell | Ryan Mortuary

December 30, 1949 ~ May 17, 2021 (age 71)

Marjorie Darlene (Phelps) Powell, age 71, of Salina, passed away Monday May 17, 2021 at Bethany Village in Lindsborg, KS. Marjorie was born December 30, 1949 in Salina to Clinton Wayne Phelps and Mildred Darlene (Yordy) Phelps.
 
Marjorie graduated from Salina Central High School in 1967. After graduation she married the love of her life and they raised three children together. After putting her children through school, she chose to further her education by attending Salina Academy of Hair Design and graduated in 1987. After graduation she owned and operated her own beauty salon while working beside her husband at Sonic Drive ln.

Marjorie married Dennis William Powell on October 29, 1967 and through this union came three children: Mark (Tonya) Powell of Salina, Michelle (Shayne) Glavin of Bennington and Melissa (Esau) Bonner Jr, of Topeka.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 53 years and their children. She is also survived by her siblings Larry (Connie) Phelps, of Abilene, Sue (Larry) Jameson, of Adrian, MI, Becky (Bob) Walters, of Hedville, Tom (Kim) Phelps of Salina, special friend Janet Jolley of Salina, a great number of nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Marjorie enjoyed traveling and was an avid antique collector. Her favorite collections consisted of Depression glassware and Coca-Cola items. Marjorie also spent many hours researching genealogy and creating family history books which she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. Marjorie was an active member of Bel Air Baptist Church. She was also actively involved in many projects through Hawthorn School. One of those was the Mother's Day Out Program, which was near and dear to her heart because Marjorie always believed "U Family comes First."

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2021 with family present from 6-8 p.m.  Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, all at Ryan Mortuary.
