The Southeast of Saline baseball team wasted no time picking up right where their 21-2 campaign left off, rocking the Kingman Eagles for a doubleheader sweep by finals of 15-5 and 19-4.
The Trojans won both decisively by way of the run rule and flexed their muscle in the batter's box, smashing four home runs en route to a 2-0 start.
“We swung really good bats 1-9 through every inning,” SES head coach Mike Garretson said. “Our pitchers threw strikes in nasty conditions and that’s a big positive.”
Southeast spread the love offensively in game one of the doubleheader, putting up four runs in the first, third, and fifth and adding three more in the fourth.
Game two was a much different story as the Trojans trailed 4-1 going into the home half of the third, before scoring an absurd twelve runs and finishing the job with six more in the fourth.
Evan Nickelson and Landen Allen looked solid on the mound despite frigid temperatures, each collecting a win with four innings of work.
Allen looked particularly good in his start, allowing just two earned runs on two hits and striking out five.
Offensively, the Trojans will head into their next doubleheader with seven members of their lineup hitting .400 or better.
Luke Gebhardt put on a show on Tuesday, reaching base in eight of his nine at bats. Gebhardt came around to score seven times while driving in five teammates on five extra-base hits including two home runs to kick off his year.
The 2-0 Trojans will stay at home for their next doubleheader on Friday as they prepare to host Smoky Valley on April 1st.
