As Salina’s population moved south, a new mascot prowled the streets, the Cougars.
In 1971, Salina South High School opened at Magnolia and Belmont beginning a cross-town rivalry. Boasting the newest in high school design, Salina South High School drew from educational trends, featuring an unusual pod design with open classrooms, colored lighting systems, a large pool, and college-style lecture halls.
