Memorial Day is when Americans remember fallen service members from the diverse branches of the United States Military who have fought in various conflicts throughout modern history.

In Salina, the Leslie W. Kreps American Legion Post 62 plans to honor fallen heroes during an 11 a.m. ceremony at Sunset Park on Monday, May 27. Legion Post 62 invited U.S. Army Ret. Col. Julia Bell, who, in 2021, made significant contributions as the Defense Logistics Agency Indo-Pacific Military Deputy Commander.

Legion Post 62 members will also honor fallen soldiers during the ceremony.

The soldier behind Legion Post 62's name, Leslie W. Kreps, was a fallen soldier of World War I. He was buried in Romagne, France, and was awarded a Purple Heart and Victory Medal for his military deeds.

Before the Sunset Park ceremony, Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services will host a Memorial Service at the business's location at 2500 E. Crawford St., Salina, KS 67401.

After the ceremony at Sunset Park, the Legion Auxiliary will provide lunch at VFW Post 1432, 1108 W. Crawford St., Salina, KS 67401.
