Salina Parks & Recreation has announced they will begin removing the current playground at Kenwood Park and replacing it for a brand new play experience.
According to Salina Parks & Rec Director, Jeff Hammond the current playground will be demolished on Monday, October 13. He added the City has a playground replacement plan for all 29 playgrounds and the Kenwood playground was chosen to be replaced due to 'age and condition.'
The current playground is 35 years old. Hammond stated a playground's longevity is about 15-20 years.
Installation of the new playground is expected to begin in November (weather permitting and possibility of delays from manufacturers).
Hammond added the playground at Bill Burke Park will be replaced as well. There was no date given for demolition or completion on that.
