UPDATE: Flood warnings, additional flash flood watches issued

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. Thursday: The National Weather Service has placed Marion County under a flood warning. The information has been added below. Additionally, Jewell and Mitchell counties have been dropped from the flash flood watch.

Flood warnings and flash flood watches have been issued for the area by the National Weather Service (NWS).

WARNINGS

NWS in Wichita has issued a flood warning for Marion County until 12:45 p.m. Friday.

At 6:47 p.m. CDT Thursday, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain which will cause flooding. Radar estimates that more than two inches of rain have already fallen in spots with additional heavy rain likely this evening and overnight.

A flood warning continues until late Saturday night for the Republican River at Clay Center, according to NWS in Topeka.

At 2:30 a.m. Thursday the river level was 17.6 feet.

Flood stage is 15.0 feet.

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

Forecast: The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by Saturday afternoon.

Impact: At 17.0 feet, flooding occurs between 16th, 17th, and 18th roads and between Limestone and Osage Roads.

A flood warning continues until Friday evening for the Solomon River at Niles, according to NWS in Topeka.

Flood stage is 24.0 feet.

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

Forecast: The river will continue rising to near 25.6 feet by Thursday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Thursday before midnight.

Impact: At 27.0 feet, Arrowhead Road west of Niles floods.

FLASH FLOOD WATCHES

NWS in Wichita has issued a flash flood watch in effect through Friday morning for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop again this afternoon and continue through tonight. Additional rain on top of saturated soils will lead to an increased risk of flooding, including the potential of flash flooding.

The heavy rain will lead to rises on creeks, streams, and rivers. In addition, flooding of low lying areas is expected. Where the most intense rainfall occurs, flash flooding may occur.

NWS in Topeka has issued a flash flood watch in effect through Friday morning for Dickinson County.

Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across the area today and diminish this evening. Additional rainfall up to two inches with locally higher amounts can be expected. Rainfall of this magnitude falling on saturated ground from heavy rainfall in recent days may lead to flash flooding and rises on creeks and rivers.

NWS has issued a flash flood watch in effect through late tonight for Ottawa County.

Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across the area today and diminish this evening. Additional rainfall up to two inches with locally higher amounts can be expected. Rainfall of this magnitude falling on saturated ground from heavy rainfall in recent days may lead to flash flooding and rises on creeks and rivers.

A flash flood watch remains in effect through this evening for the following counties in our area, according to NWS in Topeka.

Clay County

Cloud County

Republic County

Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across the area today and diminish this evening. Additional rainfall from this activity may be locally heavy with amounts near two inches possible. Rainfall of this magnitude falling on saturated ground from heavy rainfall in recent days may lead to flash flooding and rises on creeks and rivers.
