Join Michael Smith, professor of political science at Emporia State, on August 6 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Smoky Hill Museum (211 W. Iron Ave.), as he discusses his new book, Reform and Reaction. Tracing the push-and-pull, reform-and-reaction pattern of the Kansas state government since the 1960s, Smith will illuminate the political history of Kansas, including the loss of moderates in both parties, the Brownback era and its aftermath in what he calls the arc of Kansas politics.

Reform and Reaction was conceived by celebrated political scientist Burdett Loomis, who also wrote one of its chapters before his passing. Michael A. Smith is also the coauthor of Low Taxes and Small Government: Sam Brownback's Great Experiment in Kansas.
