Aubrey Gene Linville, 96, of Salina, Kan., passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born October 25, 1928, in Lincoln, Neb., to Eugene and Christie (Angell) Linville.
Aubrey grew up in Salina. He graduated from Salina High School where he was a three-sport letterman and was named Salina High School Athlete of the Year. Following graduation from Salina High in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. He went on to attend the University of Kansas where he lettered in both football and basketball, playing under coach Phog Allen in 1949 and 1950. Aubrey was named Co-Captain of the football team in 1951. At KU he met his future wife Nancy Myer and they married in 1951.
Following graduation from KU in 1952, Aubrey and Nancy moved to Texas where Aubrey was employed by Mobil Oil Company and was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves. He returned to KU in 1960 to attend law school where he graduated in January of 1963. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Kansas Law Review while in law school.
Aubrey practiced law with his father Eugene Linville for several years until he became a member of Clark, Mize, Graves & Linville in January of 1967. While practicing trial law at Clark, Mize, Graves & Linville, Aubrey served two terms on the Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission and was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 70 years, Nancy (Myer) Linville; infant son, David Linville; and sister, Christabel Lauinger.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathi; son, Rich (Karen); grandchildren, David Dupy (Megan), Matt Dupy (Jaime), Phillip Linville (Haley), Meghan Kessler (Corey), Missy Mohler (A.J.), Becky Krause (Fritz), and Bud Linville; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Anna, Caleb, Hailey, and Adam Dupy, and Jack, Caroline, and Maggie Linville; and sister, Genelle Cassill.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S 8th St, Salina, KS 67401, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. A reception will follow at the Salina Country Club.
