The Salina Family YMCA was honored to welcome lifelong member Pat Bolen and former CEO Phil Guries for a special visit and tour.

At 89 years old, Pat hadn’t been inside the Y in more than six years and was eager to see the many exciting changes made since his last, visit as well as to take a walk down memory lane. Pat has a deep history with the YMCA, remembering when it first moved from its downtown location to its current home. Over the years, he served on the YMCA Board three separate times, was an avid handball player, and always remained dedicated to the Y community.

Phil Guries first became acquainted with Pat when Phil became CEO in 1989, and together they worked to strengthen the YMCA’s mission of being a place for all. Coming from YMCAs in Denver and Fort Worth, Phil recalls one thing that has always made the Salina Family YMCA stand out — its sense of community.

“The Salina Y has always had something special,” Phil shared. “From working with local businesses to the friendly, familiar faces you see every day, the community here has always been the heart of this YMCA.”

We’re grateful to Pat and Phil for visiting and sharing their stories. Their dedication and love for the Y remind us of what makes our community so strong — a shared commitment to connection, service, and belonging.
