September 16, 1945 - October 11, 2022

James “Jim” G. Hulsey, 77, of Howard, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS. Jim had worked as a welder, cowboy, and ranch hand.

Jim was born on September 16, 1945, in Newton, KS, the son of Strozier Albin and Lavina May (Dillon) Hulsey. 

He graduated from Galva High School in 1963. 

On March 9, 1966, Jim was united in  marriage to Penny Lin Helgeson in Galva, KS.  She preceded him in death on February 10, 2016. 

Survivors include: two daughters, Sonya Allen (Scott) of Lawrence, KS and Patti Javener (Andy) of Topeka, KS; a brother, Tommy Hulsey (Pam) of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren, Danielle Cowan (Kim), Abbi Hess, Darian Hess, Avery Allen, and Katie Allen; one great-granddaughter, Ava Rose Hess; sisters-in-law Sandra Blair (Bill) of Galva, KS, Anita Walters (Steve) of Galva, KS, and Debbie Hulsey of McPherson, KS; brother-in-law Brian Helgeson (Gina) of Canton, KS; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson Cory Hess; sister Janice Holbert; and a brother, Robert Hulsey.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.  The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 15, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Black officiating.  Burial will follow at Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
