Sandra Sue "Sandy" Gibson, 87, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:50 a.m., Friday, August 19th, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

Sandy was born in Dodge City, Kansas on December 29, 1934, a daughter of Berniece Irene (Reichenborn) and Dennis Beverly West.

Sandy attended the Dodge City and Liberal schools and graduated from Garden City High School, Garden City, Kansas in 1952. She then attended Garden City Juco where she met her future husband and they graduated from Fort Hays State College with their teaching degrees.

She was a member of First Christian Church (DOC) McPherson, Kansas where she was active in many capacities through the years.

Through the years Sandy worked for several school districts including, Sublette, Alma, Lyons, and McPherson where she taught home economics at McPherson Junior High, McPherson, Kansas.

Sandy enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, quilting, was an excellent seamstress, loved playing Scrabble, working all the puzzles in the paper every morning, playing organ and piano and loved spending time with her family. After retirement Sandy loved when her grandchildren would bring their friends over for lunch when they were in high school.

Sandra Sue West was united in marriage to Bobby Lee Gibson on February 28, 1954 at Garden City, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Garden City while attending school, and later moved to Hays, Kansas where the couple finished their education. Their teaching careers took them to Sublette, Alma, Lyons, and moved to McPherson in the summer of 1971. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Rob, Tracey, and Brian.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of over 68 years, Bobby Gibson, of McPherson, Kansas; her children Rob Gibson and wife Lori, of Statesboro, Georgia, Tracey Aitken and husband Larry, of McPherson, Kansas, and Brian Gibson and wife Jill, of Owasso, Oklahoma; her sister Carol Buffington and husband Tom, of Papillion, Nebraska; her eight grandchildren, Tanner Gibson and wife Anne, Jordan Sears and husband Andrew, Sarah Henry, Luke Aitken, Madison Liley and husband Matt, McKinley Rincon and husband Jacob, Brennan Gibson, and Brighton Gibson; her 11 great-grandchildren, Emma Gibson, Zoe Gibson, Caleb Sears, Allie Sears, Silas Courtney, Asa Courtney, Wyatt Henry, Levi Henry, Jovey Henry, Quentin Henry, Hudson Liley; other relatives and a host of students and friends.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Don West and his wife Shirley; and a grandson-in-law Barry Henry.

Visitation will be held held on Friday, August 26,2022 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church (DOC) in McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.

Private family burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas
