A short, high-speed pursuit of a motorcycle in south Salina Sunday night was called off for the safety of motorists.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that at approximately 9:20 p.m. Sunday, a deputy on patrol near the intersection of S. Ninth Street and Berg Road observed a black supersport motorcycle headed south at 100 mph in a 40 mph zone. 

The deputy began pursuing the motorcycle, which then turned west onto W. Water Well Road and then north onto Interstate 135.

Soldan said the deputy called off the pursuit when the motorcycle began passing other vehicles by driving on the shoulder of the interstate.
