KWU falls to top-seeded Ottawa in KCAC Women's Tennis Championships

TOPEKA – Kansas Wesleyan dropped a 4-2 decision to top-seeded Ottawa on Friday in the semifinals of the KCAC Women's Tennis Championships at Kossover Tennis Complex.

Ottawa captured the doubles point in the match with the Braves winning both contested doubles flights. Priyanshi Sharma and Patricia Eftenoiu beat Karley Benson (SO/Salina, Kan.) and Michaela Crowe (FR/Overland Park, Kan.) 6-1 at No. 1, and Yana Goranova and Julia Wienese beat Zofia Selwesiuk (SO/Wroclaw, Poland) and Savannah Noel (SO/Portis, Kan.) 6-3 at No. 2.

The No. 3 doubles match was not contested.

In singles, Ottawa won in the first three flights. Eftenoiu beat Benson 6-4, 6-0; Wienese beat Crowe 6-3, 6-1; and Goranova beat Selwesiuk 6-2, 6-1.

KWU got its two points in the match as Savannah Noel got a default forfeit win as Ottawa only had five players, and Brianna Mendoza (JR/Balch Springs, Texas) beat Tayler Alterman 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 flight.

The Coyotes finish their season at 8-7 overall.
