Work has begun to remove the old Municipal Pool and Tri-Rivers Stadium from Kenwood Park.

Workers could be seen earlier this week digging out and loading sections of the old pool into trucks that then hauled the debris away. Additionally, the upper part of the stadium has been removed.

The work is being done to make way for a new multi-court tennis complex on the site. The complex is being built through a city partnership with Salina Tennis Alliance.

In August, the Salina City Commission approved the following funding for the $2.6 million project.

●Up to $182,000 to demolish the old Municipal Pool basin, pool building and filters, and Tri-Rivers Stadium and arena.

●Up to $82,600 to re-open existing buildings to be repurposed as part of the tennis facility.

●A $600,000 cash contribution toward funding the project to be paid upon completion, inspection, and approval by the city of 12 lighted tennis courts.

The remainder of the funding will come from private fundraising by Salina Tennis Alliance.
