February 15, 1934 - May 19, 2021

Lois Jean (Jagger) Bowlinger, age 87, entered into heaven on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at her residence in Concordia, Kansas.

During high school years, she worked on the farm of Lee and Vivian Baccus.  They were such great people and she was happy to work there.  After graduating from Minneapolis High School, she graduated from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas with a bachelor’s degree, and ten years later with a master’s degree.  She received a reading specialist degree from Kansas State University.

After teaching a year in WaKeeney, Kansas, she went to Concordia, Kansas where she taught from 1960 until retirement in 1999.

She married Fredrick William Bowlinger, Jr. and lived in Sabetha, KS for ten years.  After the death of Fred, she worked in the Sabetha Community Food bank for a few years.  Later, she purchased The Clothes Rack, a ladies clothing store, which she moved to Sabetha.  When the economy forced closing of the store, Lois returned to Concordia to live.

She loved Fred, her son and his family, her dogs, reading, music, and needlework.  Her joy had been teaching, then seeing former students, learning of their families and accomplishments.

Preceding her in death were her parents and four sisters, Irene Baugus, Betty Rathbone, Ruth Webber, Annabel Bergman.

Survivors include son William Drake Maples, his wife Patience, and their children Nicole Woolfolk, Julianna Kelly, Jacob Maples, and Robert Maples.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 24, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Dwight Whitead officiating.  Her burial will be beside Fred in the Highland Cemetery in Minneapolis, Kansas, following the funeral service.
