David Alan Torrey, 78, of Salina, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas.  He was born February 19, 1947, in Olean, New York, the son of Floyd and Bonnie (Quillen) Torrey.  On May 29, 1971, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Gile in Ellis, Kansas.  David served in the United States Army for 20 years with tours including, Europe, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam.  During his service, he received numerous honors including a Purple Heart.  After his retirement from the Army, David spent 22 years working Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1432 and a member of the Purple Heart Chapter in Salina.  David was proud of serving his country and always flew the flag and talked about what it meant.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, cheering grandkids on at their events, collecting coins, and coffee with the guys.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty, of the home; three children, Jason (Katie Woods) Torrey, Amanda (Scott Olson) McIntire, and Patrick (Sarah) Torrey, all of Salina; nine grandchildren, Zachary Torrey, of Atlanta, Georgia, McKenzee Hall, of Ellinwood, Kansas, Angela Hall, Lauren Torrey, Maegan Torrey, Harrison Torrey, Leah Torrey, Tyson Torrey, and Braxton McIntire, all of Salina.; his siblings, Dennis (Diann) Torrey, Brenda (John) Huiett, Gaylene (Jim) Pauley. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 14, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.  Family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ethan Feistner , as officiant.  Interment will follow the service in Roselawn Cemetery, with Fort Riley Honor Guard, VFW Post #1432, and American Legion Riders Honor Guard to provide military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kansas Honor Flight, Bethany Home, or VFW Post 1432, in care of Heier Scott Mortuary and Cremations, 1920 East Crawford Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.
