The Kansas Impact Coalition (KIC) has announced a different location of Sharing Fridge & Freezer.
ORIGINAL: Salina organizations partner to help mitigate local food insecurity
KIC in partnership with Smoky Hill Equality Coalition, is launching the Salina Sharing Fridge & Freezer — a community-driven response to worsening food insecurity in Salina.
The Sharing Fridge & Freezer opens Tuesday, October 28 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Bravo’s Sliders & Bites, 1400 East Iron Avenue.
Volunteers will be onsite beginning Tuesday. The fridge and freezer will remain accessible 24 hours a day to anyone in the community.
“As SNAP benefits are cut and harmful (political) choices make it harder for families to afford groceries, what was already a food desert in Salina has now become an emergency,” said Miranda Bachman, President of KIC. “Our neighbors deserve access to healthy food, day and night — and we refuse to wait for policy to catch up to the need.”
The Sharing Fridge & Freezer operates under a dignity-first model:
Take what you need. Give what you can.
Only fresh and frozen foods are accepted:
- Fruits & vegetables
- Milk, dairy, cheese, eggs
- Meat and frozen proteins
- Refrigerated drinks and goods
KIC is actively seeking additional partners, host sites and donated refrigerators/freezers to expand access across Salina.
