SALINA —The Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. will sponsor a mini-Career Fair for middle and high school students in partnership with St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10:30-11:30 am, at 215 S. Chicago, according to a media release from the association.
The Youth Fun Day event is a part of the association’s mission to education the youth of today about the history of Dunbar School and the importance of an education. There will be professionals presenting from career fields in Banking, Barbering, Information Technology, Law Enforcement, and Legal professions. Three of the presenters, Kirk Holt, Hewitt Gordon, and Captain Stephen Kency are graduates of Salina Central High School.
After the mini-Career Fair event, children, and youth in grades kindergarten through high school, will enjoy a free lunch, outdoor games and a bounce house from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. The Fun Day activities are free and open to the public. Parents who want their children to attend must complete a parent permission form. The Career Fair and Fun Day are part of the association’s 11th Dunbar School Reunion activities which begin on Friday, July 21 and continue through Sunday, July 23. The Friday evening event will be a Memorial Service in memory of former Dunbar students and staff. On Saturday there will be a banquet at Hilton Homewood Suites, featuring Dunbar descendant, Dr. Karina Yager, granddaughter of the oldest living Dunbar School alumni. Dunbar alumni and friends will have a busy day of activities including a tour of Dunbar School, a variety of games, and fun group fitness activities. The Friday Memorial Service is open to the public as well as the Saturday evening banquet, which begin at 6:00 pm. Banquet tickets are $55.00.
