MANHATTAN – In a unique twist to its schedule, K-State soccer will play four non-conference matches this spring which will count towards its record-setting 2020 fall record.
“The 2021 spring schedule will look a little different and will be approached differently,” said K-State head coach Mike Dibbini. “Typically the spring is used to dig deeper in our individual player development and allow players to grow individually while we try and get better as a team.
“This spring, matches are countable and we will prepare like we would in the fall. Although we had good momentum ending the fall season, it will be interesting to see how our returning young group steps up after the departure of our senior group. We also get to integrate a few of our incoming transfers, so that could be a bright spot as well. At the end of the day, we will continue to get better and use this spring to prepare us for the fall.”
The Wildcats will begin its schedule at Buser Family Park on March 6 with the Dillons Sunflower Showdown against Kansas at 11 a.m. K-State will make a return trip to Lawrence to face the Jayhawks on March 13.
K-State will travel to Columbia, Missouri, to play its first official match against Missouri, facing the Tigers on March 28. This will be K-State’s first official match against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference.
Kansas State returns to Buser Family Park on April 10, as the Wildcats host Iowa State at noon.
The final match of the spring schedule will be an exhibition at Oklahoma on Saturday, April 17.
Broadcast information will be available at a later date.
Despite the departure of seven players from its 2020 fall roster, Kansas State’s spring roster will feature 2020 All-Big 12 First Team selection Brookelynn Entz, sophomore forward Kyler Goins and sophomore midfielder Bailey Nemechek. The Wildcats will also benefit this spring from the additions of transfers Aliyah El-Naggar, Jael Larson and Kursten von Klahr as each of their programs opted to either play a spring season or not compete in 2020-21 season.
K-State capped its Big 12-only schedule in the fall of 2020 with a record of 3-6-0. This marked the most wins in league play since the program started as a member of the Big 12 in 2017.
The Wildcats, winners of three of their final five matches, clinched a seventh-place finish in the league standings which marked its highest finish in the league standings since joining the Big 12 as a soccer member in 2017.
