WADDELL, Ariz. – Kansas Wesleyan got a homer by Jarrett Gable, the first of the season for the Coyotes, but KWU was tripped up by Arizona Christian 5-3 on Thursday night at Canyon View High School.

Gable's solo shot in the top of the second inning gave KWU a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Coyotes added another run. After singles by Tyler Triano and Dustin Sipe, Triano would score on an ACU error pushing KWU's lead out to 2-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, ACU would tie it up. A wild pitch would yield the first run and a passed ball would allow ACU to tie things up in the frame.

ACU took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run and added two more in the sixth to take the 5-2 lead.

Triano tripled in the top of the eighth and then scored on Sipe's sacrifice fly to get the Coyotes within two runs at 5-3.

KWU had a season high nine hits, which included three by Triano who was 3 for 3 on the night and scored twice.

Trent Dewyer struck out nine against just one walk in four and two-thirds innings on the hill for the Coyotes, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits, but suffered the loss. Spencer FoleyBranden VoytkoEthan Wilson and Noah Schneider all saw action on the mound as well.

Wesleyan plays on Friday against the Yotes of College of Idaho at 3:30 Central Time, 2:30 Arizona time at Canyon View before rounding out the Coach Calderone Tournament on Saturday against San Diego Christian.
