Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Quotes

September 3, 2024

OPENING STATEMENT: “Alright, really nothing other than the Hollywood (Brown) mention. Other than that, everybody practiced today. (We) look forward to the challenge of playing the Ravens, a good football team, we know that. (We) had a good week of practice (and) the guys are ready to go. With that, the time’s yours.”

Q: Do you think you have a feel for how the team will play in the home opener?

REID: “I go in saying that ‘We’re going to play well.’ That’s how I go into every game. (It’s) no different here.”

Q: Is the home opener one of the most mysterious games due to many unknowns?

REID: “I’m curious to see what we’ve got. I mean, that’s always – I think that’s probably with every player, every coach, every fan, (and) every media person. (They’re) curious to see what you have and how you handle everything. That’s the best part about it. We will see how it goes.”

Q: How is Clyde Edwards-Helaire and how did the conversation go to put him on NFI?

REID: “Clyde (Edwards-Helaire) talked to y’all, so you understand. I’m going to keep what we talked about private. We’re looking out for, obviously, what’s best for him and that’s – right now, that is the most important thing.”

Q: What are you expecting from other teams and is it fun to be the first regular season game in the NFL?

REID: “Yeah, we’ll see what goes (on). I’m not sure what to anticipate or expect, but we’ll see how it all works out. You’ve got two good special teams going against each other, plus (Ravens Head Coach) John’s (Harbaugh) got a ton of experience there, so we’ll just see how it goes.”

Q: I’m in town covering this game, where do I get some good food?

REID: “Listen if I say one (food spot to eat at), the others will kick me out. You can’t pick a bad spot, but after this, I’ll give you one.”

Q: I didn’t know you were a politician.

REID: “When it comes to food, I am (laughter).”

Q: You’ve had a legendary career and legendary run here in KC. How many more years do you have left?

REID: “I signed a five-year deal, so we’ll see how all of that goes. I’m getting older though, Brandon (Marshall), and you know that.”

TE TRAVIS KELCE

Q: Is there any different feeling going into this season opener compared to your first one?

KELCE: “Completely different. You’re just more comfortable, more aware of kind of the system, the routines, so you feel like you’ve got that much more of a heads up. You’re kind of like more advanced in terms of understanding scheme and things like that and just how you’re supposed to attack your opponent.”

Q: How do you focus on football with all the other things going on in your life?

KELCE: “I just love coming in here, man. It’s kind of – I mentioned (that) St. Joe was my sanctuary. I just love football and how it takes me away from life, and it gives me something I can feel genuinely happy about. I enjoy coming in the building, working on my craft, getting to understand a new gameplan and perfecting that for the people around me. It gives me a purpose to kind of go about my day and to live my life. I have so much excitement doing it. It’s going to be hard trying to figure out when to call it quits or not.”

Q: What is the excitement when you see that first gameplan?
