Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball came away with a sweep of the Bethany Swedes 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 on Wednesday night inside Mabee Arena.
The victory gets the Coyotes back to .500 overall at 11-11, and to 5-3 in the KCAC. Bethany fell to 3-15 overall and is still in search of its first KCAC win of the season.
Wesleyan sped out to a 3-0 lead to start the match, but Bethany came came and took a 6-5 lead in the set. Bethany pushed out to a 10-7 lead in the set before the Coyotes came roaring back. Wesleyan scored five straight starting with a Ryleigh Stuhlsatz setter dump kill and capped by a kill by Joey Pennington to make it 12-10 Coyotes.
The Coyotes pushed the lead out to 19-14 on a kill by Gianna Adriaanse and led 21-15 on Malia Smith's service ace. The Coyotes led 22-18 when Bethany scored four straight to tie things up. After a KWU timeout, the Coyotes got a point and then another to have set point at 24-22. Bethany scored the next two to tie it, but a Swede service error and a kill by Adriaanse would give the first set to the Coyotes.
Bethany led 9-7 in the second set, but the Coyotes came back getting three straight kills, two from Kylee Harris to take an 11-9 lead. KWU pushed it out to 14-10 and led 19-14, Another kill by Harris gave KWU a 22-15 lead. A block by Rylee Serpan and Kate Bebout gave KWU set point and the Coyotes would take the set 25-17.
KWU led 12-9 in the third set but Bethany came back and took a brief 13-12 lead in the set. A kill by Serpan got the Coyotes back even, and KWU would take the lead on a Harris and Camryn Lewis block. KWU held the lead but Bethany would stay close until the end. KWU led 21-20 but a service error by the Swedes gave the Coyotes a point and KWU rattled off four more capped by Lewis' kill to end the match.
Serpan had 15 kills to lead the Coyotes, seven coming in the third set alone. Harris had nine and Adriaanse had eight. Stuhlsatz had 19 assists and Blair Pennington had 15. Tristyn Hedman had 25 digs for the Coyotes. Harris added three blocks.
