51st Shrine Bowl featuring several area athletes to kick off this Saturday on KINA

The 51st annual Kansas Shrine Bowl will kick off this Saturday, and our area will be well represented, with a slew of players lining the West All-Star team roster.

Offense
WR- Hunter Mowery (Salina Central)
WR- Brax Fisher (Abilene)
WR/K- Blaise Hoover (McPherson)

Defense
LB- Teegan Haines (McPherson)
OL- Weston Langvardt (Chapman)
DB- Daniel Kejr (SE of Saline)
LB- Loden West (Ellsworth)

Coaches
Head Coach- Jace Pavlovich (McPherson)
Assistant Coach- Mitch Gebhardt (SE of Saline)

That group will have their work cut out for them as the East has won or tied six of the last seven Shrine Bowl games. 

As of 2023, the West leads the series with 31 wins, the East has 17 wins, and there have been two ties. 

Notable alumni include former All-Pro Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson, NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, former Kansas State and Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Gary Spani, former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl Champion Linebacker Mark Simoneau and many others.

As always, net proceeds from this game will benefit Shriners Childrens. The Shrine Bowl has existed since 1974 and has raised over $3.8M for Shriners Hospitals for Childrens

The game will be played at Welsh Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University, and kickoff is set for 7:00 on Saturday.
