Salina Family YMCA is promoting kids health with a before, back to school event that is filled with a day full of eventful activities, lunch, snacks, raffles, games and a shoe drive.

On Saturday, August 2nd from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, families have a great opportunity to take their children to the Salina Family YMCA (570 YMCA Dr.) for the annual "Healthy Kids Day." According to the YMCA, this free event will consist of:

  1. Open Swim
  2. Open Gymnastics
  3. Community Lunch and Healthy Snacks
  4. Shoe Drive Giveaway
  5. Raffle
  6. Games and activities led by local vendors and community partners

This is a national event that typically occurs each year around YMCA's in April, but Salina's YMCA in particular thought to accumulate it before the school year.

"This is good way for the kids to restart and it just shows what we are about here at the Y," said Senior Director of Community Outreach, Marti Higdon. "This event is a great way to promote healthy kids."

Higdon stated that during the event, various community resources will make an appearance as well.

Children in attendance will also learn about what it means to eat healthy, perform proper physical activity, mental/emotional wellbeing and developing overall healthy habits.

A shoe drive will take place as well and people can donate towards the 'sneaker drive' at the Salina Family YMCA front desk, or call Membership at (785) 825-2151 before Friday, August 1st
