At its Tuesday meeting, The Saline County Board of Commissioners approved sending out a notice to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate for the 2025 Saline County Budget.

"We need to know whether the county intends to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for next year because that is an answer that needs to be transmitted to the county clerk by July 20," Saline County Administrator Phil Smith Hanes said. "On Tuesday we will be in a study session and not meeting on the budget. So today is the magic day."

Smith-Hanes reminded commissioners that the current proposed 2025 County Budget does exceed the revenue-neutral rate. He assured commissioners that they could always come back and reduce certain elements of the budget.

"You can reduce it later in July or you can reduce it in August when we have the final hearing," Smith-Hanes said. "You just couldn't exceed those numbers if we don't provide that notice."

The motion to provide the notification to residents passed 5-0.
