Melvin A. Otte, Beloit
August 16, 1943 - December 4, 2022
Melvin Alfred Otte was born on August 16, 1943 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, the son of Alfred and Louise Zempke Otte. He died on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Hays Medical Center at the age of 79.
He grew up on the family farm in the Custer Township before graduating from Hunter High School in 1961.
Melvin was united in marriage with his first wife, Denise. One daughter, Brenda, was born to this union. He always had a heavy heart when Brenda died in a tragic drowning accident.
On December 17, 1971, he married Laura, and two sons, Matt and Jason, were born.
During his lifetime in Mitchell County, he worked many years for Standard Oil, Beloit Motor Company, the Car Care Center, and Thummel Auction.
In his spare time, he loved antiquing, and attending auctions, flea markets, and garage sales. He loved his grandchildren, and also kept close with many life-long friends in the area.
Melvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Sue, and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Matt of Beloit, and Jason and wife Stephanie of Beloit; two brothers, Edward of Wellington and Lee of St. Louis; his sister Bernice Soderberg of Tampa, FL; his three loving grandchildren Emma, Ally, and Daxon; and a host of nieces and nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 9 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund.
